Mark Kirk of Illinois is the senator most likely to lose his seat in next year’s election. A Republican representing a deep-blue state, Kirk won a narrow victory in 2010, the year of a dramatic Republican sweep, against a relatively weak opponent. But next year he’ll likely be facing Rep. Tammy Duckworth, who has a national profile, huge fundraising potential and an inspiring life story (as an Army pilot, Duckworth lost both legs when her helicopter was shot down in Iraq). And this will be a presidential year, when more Democrats come to the polls. So Kirk isn’t going to let something like the Islamic State attacks in Paris go to waste. And in the process, he’s giving us a preview of what a lot of 2016 races could look like. Here’s the ad Kirk just debuted:
